The South Island Inter Club Championships are traditionally held alternately in Christchurch or Invercargill in May each year. Teams usually arrive on the Friday night, play commences Saturday morning and finals are held Saturday afternoon. A prizegiving and dinner is held on Saturday night and then teams depart for home on Sunday.

Usually four grades are offered, A, B, C and a Womens grade. Last year a Premier grade was offered, which 1 team entered and therefore played in the combined Premier/A grade.
