North Island Inter Club Championships 2005 | |

Pre-Tournament The North Island Inter Club Championships are traditionally held in the central location of Rotorua in May or June each year. The hot pools are also a bonus to sooth tired and weary muscles. In recent years a return to an organised function has been made to bring more of an underwater hockey community feel to the event. The long Queen's Birthday weekend is ideal for this as two days of play are needed due to the size of the tournament. If not held on the long weekend teams usually arrive on the Friday night, play commences Saturday morning, teams have quiet team dinners on the Saturday night because they have games the next morning, round robin games complete on Sunday morning, finals are held Sunday afternoon, the prizegiving is pool side and then teams depart for home on Sunday evening. Usually four grades are offered, Premier, A, B and C and in recent years a Womens grade has also been offered. In 2005 an Open Novice grade is also offered, to cater for those teams made up of players who have not attended a club competition before.
