COMPETITION INFORMATION
The 2005 NZ Inter Zone Championships take 2 are to be held over the weekend of the
17th and 18th of September in Christchurch, New Zealand.
In past years, the Inter Zone Champs have been held in February or March, in preparation
for World Champs soon after. However, the 2006 CMAS Underwater Hockey World Championships
are being held in August, so in 2006 the Inter Zone Champs will be held in
July. Another reason for the shift is that underwater hockey is
traditionally a winter sport in NZ, so having the Inter Zone Champs
straight after summer has been a bit of a struggle since the change in the mid-90's.
Two grades will be held, Open Womens and Open Mens. There were also
Open Masters and Womens Masters grades offered, but only two teams have entered
in the Open Masters grade and so they will play in the Open Mens Grade.

All players must be registered on the UWHNZ Player Database by having paid their affiliation levies. You can check players are registered on the club register located in the membership area of the UWHNZ website.
The tournament will also incorporate an educational presentation by NZ Sports Drug Agency and it is a possibility that random drug testing will be conducted during the championships. Prime Minister Scholarship holders should take note.
Zones must supply 2 qualified L2 referees (non playing) or send at least 2 members on the Level 2 Referees course. The Championships will be used as a training course for Level 2 Referees as the matches are run to full international rules except for team composition.
