What it's for!
The most vital piece of equipment, since you cannot play without
one (no puns intended!). Like the gloves, sticks are not commercially
made but some players make and sell sticks. Check with your coach.
If you wish to make your own, do not try to design your own until
you have tried more experienced players designs. Selecting the wood
can be important. Marine-bonded plywood is a good start as it is
fairly easy to cut and not too expensive, but plywood sticks tend
to not last long in top level games. Use 1.8cm thick wood, no more
than 2.0cm, no less than 1.6cm, for best results.
I will hopefully print stick-making instructions and advice later.
If you need a copy of the stick regulations (printed in a previous
issue of the Evening Puck and the Inside Edge) I can get you a copy.
